Tre Cimme-Drei Zinnen, Dolomites, Italy

Tre Cime or Drei Zinnen is the jewel of the crown for the Dolomiti. It is great, it is beautiful, it is UNESCO protected but everything here in the Dolomites is as beautiful and impressive as Tre Cime. The Tre Cime are a set of tall rocks similar with the famous Torres del Paine in the Patagonian National Park but for sure they are not better or less.
We wanted to come and hike here, unfortunately with the same NB sneakers good also for Fire Island in the fall. But fortunately we did not have enough time to go on places that are full of snow in the summer. Tre Cime has a number of hikes that are spectacular without getting into rock climbing on the “cime” or similar peaks..

Tre Cime-Drei Zinnen, Dolomiti, Italy

We got great information at Refugio Auronzo and started a hike around the three “cime” reaching Refugio Lavaredo and further Refugio Drei Zinnen. It is interesting to see how some places in Sud Tirol use Italian language and other use only German. From Refugio Drei Zinnen, we started to hike around towards the valley for a while , thorough waterfalls and pink melting snow, that remained a mystery how it got tainted this way. In the end we returned to the Refugio and continued for about 80 minutes back to Refugio Auronzo through beautiful valleys marked by stones written signatures of various hikers,

Misourina Lake, Italy

After we got back to the car we drove to Misourina where we had a great dinner of polenta con funghi by the lake and drove back to Residence Corte in Borca di Cadore where, no matter that we did not have reservations, the people from the hotel did everything possible to accommodate us for the night, offering us also a bottle of wine on the house. Italian hospitality!
