May Day in East Village

01 May

2nd Avenue in East Village, NYC

With Baltimore events in their mind New Yorkers had its share of protests against police brutality. And for good reason because since 9/11 the attitude of the law enforcement is sensibly different than before leaning toward harsh methods. And if this is obviously noticeable by the white middle class population, the brunt of the actions are directed to the black and minorities who land up in jailed for minor offenses, burdening an overcrowded jail system to the high expense of all citizens.

However the May Day parade happening as expected every year in the left leaning Lower East Side was an aggregation of grievances from illegal immigration to the treatment of the minorities, with only a segment related to Freddy Gray’s death in police custody.
