Bushwick annual Open Studios Art Festival brings the neighborhood alive like in no other time. The street artists work incessantly painting the buildings inviting onlookers to peek into old warehouse buildings and garages converted year round in art studios. Most of the buildings carry sign in Chinese showing a change from the old industrial era to a new wholesale.
Events and parade fill the streets, restaurant have one hour waiting lines, music gatherings happen at every corner in an ecstatic atmosphere.
Entire old warehouses on several floors were converted in art studios. Between a glass blowing studio, a painter studio or a large photo studio you can see a large slow river huge boat moored on one of the water inlets that penetrate the island. It looks so similar with what used to be Dumbo before it became trendy and started to be filled by the “luxury” developments.
After a full day of walking around the entire expanse area the best is to chill in the sunset overlooking the Manhattan skyline or to join one of the yard parties whose music is seeping onto the streets from above.
