The weather was so nice that folks in Fire Island look mesmerized holding their fingers crossed for more days like this one. They looked like they just caught another day of life before the dreaded winter; all barefoot on the beach, in the ocean, in restaurants, some courageous ones diving for a while in the surf. Kismet Inn, still open as usual at this time, had a band playing with the speakers booming toward the marina full of boats on whose decks folks were basking in the sun nursing beers. Even the deer were all over feeling that very soon they will remain the most numerous inhabitants of the island.
