Cataratas

Iguazu Falls, Brazil

Iguazu Falls is considered the largest waterfall in the world. It spans almost 3km along the border between Argentina and Brazil, having about 275 vertical drops. Their heights vary between 60 meters and 82 meters making Iguazu taller than Niagara Falls.

In both countries they call the waterfall, cataratas. And the authorities made it way easier to see these cataratas on both sides of the border in the same day. The border crossing is a breeze with just a fast free stamp in the passport and off you go to the entry of the park in Foz de Iguazu in Brazil. The walk on the only path in front of the waterfall takes about 2 hours that confers great views across the entire drop of the river.

It’s a very pleasant walk with lots of viewpoints where people spend lots and lots of time to get their best Instagram pictures. But even if you are delayed by them in less than three hours you are done. At the end of the path there are some layered platforms with an elevator that brings you to the top of the falls for a gorgeous view.

Taxis bring and wait for you to see the waterfalls on both sides of the border in one day. They may also bring you to the airport if you have a late flight for a reasonable cost. We had a day and a half in Iguazu and decided to visit the Brazilian side on the first half day. Not being in a rush we took a bus around 1:00 PM from Puerto Iguazu, Argentina – there are two companies running buses over the border – and on a slow visiting pace we were back in town around 6:00 PM.
